Wild Horse Killers

Wild Horse Killers by Mel Ellis

This is a great book my Mom picked up for me somewhere (She always finds the horse books at flea markets! Thanks Mom!)

Synopsis:
A college age girl lives out on her family's ranch. Her Dad wants her to geld her favorite horse, Red. (I can remember the horse's name, but not the girls!) The horse escapes and joins a small band of feral horses living in the valley.

Nasty men from town have rented a small plane and a jeep and are trying to catch the horses to sell for slaughter. The girl's horse is out with the wild bunch. She is on summer break, and decides to move the band of horses through the desert and over a mountain range, to a conservation land that will protect the wild horses.

The story follows her summer of moving this herd of horses alone.

It is a great book! You really feel like you are on the trip with her.
