Last night, on my way home, my neighbor around the corner had a horse loose on the road.
Of course they weren't home. I know this neighbor though, so I hurried to my house, changed out of my work clothes, grabbed a lead rope and a bucket of grain and jumped back in my car.
As I was doing so, I could hear a car honking around the corner... Lovely, a horse is loose on the road, so lets honk at him and make him more nervous...
Well, I went around the corner and parked my car on the street with my emergency lights on. The horse was on the shoulder, so I hid my lead rope behind my back and shook the bucket of grain at him.
All the horses still in the field got really excited at this and took off. I stood and watched as the loose horse cantered down the road and up the other neighbor's yard, to catch up with his friends.
Great... So, I hike over to the other neighbors, and shake my bucket. Finally the loose horse came over to check me out. While he had his face in the bucket, I very slowly went to put the lead rope around his neck, which made him shy away from me when he noticed.
I was able to bribe him with the bucket of grain back to where he belonged. He followed like a good boy, but I couldn't get him to go through the hot wire gate into his proper field, so I tied a piece of rope across the driveway and left him loose in their driveway.
These people have like 8 scrubby horses all loose together on like 3 acres, with a single strand of thigh high hot wire keeping them in. Lovely, and of course the one that got out was so wild, I couldn't even get a lead rope around his neck. So you KNOW that these horses get wormed, vaccinated, and have their feet trimmed as needed, right? (Sarcasm...)
