Dang Cats
Christmas Kitty keeps waking us up in the middle of the night. He sits outside the patio door in the bedroom and claws the screen to come in. So, Dan gets up to let him in. Then, he will eat and then come stand over Dan's head and say "MEOW, MEOW, MEOW" really loud until Dan gets up and lets him back out. This used to just happen once a night, but now, Christmas will go out, then decide he wants in again. Dan had to let him in/out FOUR times last night. Dan is mad. :(
How do you get a cat to stop doing this?
I like this cat picture, maybe we should start bugging Christmas while he is trying to sleep...
Sigh...
On Craigslist today...
"We are looking for a trail riding, kid broke, safe, sane, sound, broke broke gaited horse, must be big enough to carry a 330lb person, we don't care what breed, can even be a cross, just no pacey horses please, do not want an expensive pedigreed horse, we only pleasure ride, we don't show, we prefere an older horse, have vet and personal references upon request, our horses are taken excellent care of and fed twice daily. Thank you" Link
I politely emailed and suggested "You should really consider a draft or draft cross for a 330 lb person"
To which I received this reply "No thank you, I know there are plenty of big gaited horses out there!"
Sigh... No offence, but a 330 lb person is going to have a hard time being balanced on any sized horse. I feel sorry for the Fox Trotter who ends up having to pack this person around! Gah!
FYI: It is a common idea that the weight of the rider and tack should not exceed 20% of the weight of the horse. Therefore, a 1000lb horse can comfortable carry appx 200 lb of person and saddle.

Margo and the Fat Man
Lovely Margo...
The fat man, scratching his butt..

Fatty McFats hanging with the neighbor fatties...
Pete likes to bite the neighbor horses...
Then tear off like he is real tough...
(Hopefully he will burn off some of that chunk!) He then comes back to bite and harass the neighbor horses more... What a beastie!
Margo says "yawn" to all that... Go away flies! *stomp
My Neighbor's Horses's Feet
This, to me, looks like their farrier was trying to remedy White Line Disease, by allowing oxygen to get into the hoof. These feet, on their obese gelding, don't seem so terrible, but the only time I have seen similar the horse was kept in a very sterile environment. (Yes, they rode him the other day)
Okay, that is not so bad you say, well this is the foot that about made me have a coronary! They were riding this horse the other day too! Holy cow! This horse is definitely sore on this foot, just walking around the field. This gelding is also extremely obese. Yikes! I have NEVER seen a foot like this!

It seems to me they probably have a knowledgeable farrier, but I know their farrier didn't do this work, then say "stick 'em back out on grass to stuff their faces and ride all ya want!" At least I hope not! As a side note, the one (and only) time I have ever seen these two being rode was just the other day and one of them bucked off their rider. (Not surprising now that I have seen their feet!)

Long Weekend...
Well, My friend Jesse is a photographer and he is doing a series of portraits. I was flattered to have been asked to do a few photos with my horse Margo and my pony Pete. Here is a link to his site.
Jesse came out to Wilson's Creek one day and met us, then came out to the farm another day and shot some 'idea' shots.
Well, yesterday was the actual "photo shoot" and it was exhausting. We worked, and it was definitely work, from 3 pm until 8 pm.
He started by doing a photo in our bedroom of me (with Christmas Kitty!) It seemed hot, probably because our A.C. quit working!!! It wasn't blowing air out the vents! Gah! So, I am already sweaty (lovely) when we went out in the heat and humidity to do some other shots.
Margo was a good girl. She stood patiently as I could have wanted. It was hot! Pete did pretty good too. He has very little patience, but I let him eat grass between takes.
I am really tired today, and it is my long day, with work and then class tonight until 9:30. What a way to go back after a 3 day weekend! I hope the a.c. is working when I get home tonight~
I can't wait to see the photos! Jesse let me have a few 'sneak peaks' but I know the finished product will be worth the wait!
