Budweiser Clydesdales!

Mateo took me last night to see the Budweiser Clydesdales, who were in town for the Springfield Cardinals opening game. Pretty boys... What a handsome man
Hoofs! They were so big! Like dinner plates, weird shoes with lots of pad arrangements going on...

Sillyness.. they all stood so politely though...

We went and watched them get unhitched at the Dillions by our house. This one is just standing there waiting, what a good boy!

Oh my gosh!

Kara's dad built a backrest for the pony cart, doesn't it look good? I think it makes the whole cart look WAY nicer. Kara is going to paint the wood on the cart red. It will look super sharp!

Harness Fit Critque

Kara, I submitted a thread on COTH asking for thoughts about the fit of Pete's harness from experienced drivers... Read HERE
We got some nice replies and good thoughts...

More Shetland Pony Driving

Kara, Daniel and Petey, ready to go! They are serious professionals who wear their helmets when driving!
Is Pete asleep here? Ha! He looks happy in his regular bridle, compared to that big heavy driving bridle. This is a really pretty, relaxed walk.Yay! I think his harness looks perfectly adjusted here, in comparison to the shafts.
Super pretty trot! Look at Petey!!! :)

Oh, man he will be sooo fit!

xoxo!

Today!

Yay! Kara driving Petey today... She said he did really good, they did a lot of trotting. sweet!
I think the shafts, in relation to his shoulders, look to be in a MUCH better position!

Kara must be hooked on driving now, lol, she keeps sending me carts! I LOVE this one! $900... Beautiful! Link

Kara, driving is like discovering a whole new world of horse stuff to shop for! haha

Pony Cart Update

Well, last night, I got my pony cart partially reassembled. I picked up the wheels from Queen City Cycles (Only $25 for new bearings, axles greased and tires filled up.) I spray painted them black last night, then I put the wood slates back on the cart, which was like a jigsaw puzzle. (Note to self: mark which ones go where if I ever do that again!) One of the screws was striped though, so I need to buy a new one. Of course, I forgot to bring it with me to town... Duh! Cart is looking pretty nice though, in my opinion... Just need to rebuild the seat now, so I can get fat man Pete driving again! :) Yay!

My New Pony Cart is Painted!

Well, yesterday, I was able to grind all the loose paint off and had enough left over spray paint to paint it! I painted the ends of the shafts silver, as the original paint job had them... not sure if I will leave them that way or paint them black, but I liked the contrast. I also sanded the floorboards and stained them with some left over cherry stain Daniel had... Yay! So, the wheels are at Springfield Cycles downtown getting their axles greased, new bearings put in, and the tires aired up. The seat is at Dad's waiting to be rebuilt, hopefully I can work on that this week. :)

Affordable?

Link With pneumatic wheels $695. + shipping UPS
Hmm... Will Daniel EVER go back to work? Seriously this economy sucks!!!

Take Apart Cart

Tires on old cart... Tires (bike wheels) off new cart. These wheels were not interchangeable anyway. After much thought and discussion on the COTH message board, I have been made a little nervous about using wire rimmed wheels for driving. (Pic stolen from COTH, used w/o permission)
I'd like to have motorcycle wheels or fancy expensive cart wheels. Sigh...(Its always something! But I want to be safe!)

Cart Deconstruction... wheels are off..

Seat came off (after quite a struggle!)
Seat will be remade new...
Wood came off... Naked cart!!
I was also told my new cart looked flimsy, but alas, we cannot all afford $2000 pony carts! Lol, I will just have to do the best with what I can. I am happy to have one that he fits in better, at least!

Pony Carts!

Did some swapping yesterday and scored a new (bigger) pony cart for Peter! I put him between the shafts yesterday and it is a much better fit for him. The cart could use a new seat and a coat of paint, but those are fun jobs! I plan on switching out the hard tires on my old cart for the (flat) bicycle tires on the new cart. Fingers crossed they are the same size! You can see in this picture how much wider the shafts on the new cart are (the new one is on the right.) And here is the Petey beastie himself, tied to a tree and wondering what I am doing and when can he eat again?

Pony Carts

Well, here is my cart... it is a bit narrow in the shafts for Petey, and he wont fit it in his new, bigger harness... I was going to have Dan take it to his shop and cut the shafts off and widen them... Then I found this cart on CL, and the lady said it is too big for her 33 in mini (Pete is 40 in, or 10 hh), anyway so I emailed her about trading... I would have to paint it if I got it... The red is a bit much... But we will see... Might work out! Link

Pete's New Harness!

Here is a picture of it... Here is theLink Yay! I'm sooo excited! It was only $338.00 with shipping, for the Shetland sized one. I sold my Little Joe Bareback Saddle and the Equipedic pad I had to go with it for $300. So, once I sell Pete's current harness, I think I will come out ahead. Petey will be sooo handsome!
